Electric and faster than an F1 in Monaco?

DGR-Lola electric

Lucas di Grassi never does things by halves, as evidenced by this bold electric car project.

The former Formula E champion has just unveiled the DGR-Lola, a concept car that is as futuristic as it is ambitious, which he envisioned and refined himself, with technical support from Lola Cars. An engineering exercise that pushes electric technology to its limits… at least on computer.

On paper, the figures are dizzying: 4.3 seconds faster than a Formula 1 car around the Monaco circuit, ten times more energy-efficient, and packed with advanced technologies. The car relies on a very contemporary mix: active aerodynamics, two suction turbines generating grip at any speed, four-wheel drive, and 600 kW of power (or 804 hp), powered by a modular 60 kWh battery. Additionally, it incorporates an open development philosophy, with software fully integrating the vehicle’s subsystems.

Tech, aero, and everything you need

The design, crafted with the help of LamTec, Chris Paul Design, and Airshaper for the aerodynamic part, showcases a rather successful silhouette: sleek, aggressive, worthy of an endurance prototype that has swallowed a racing drone. It’s hard not to applaud the boldness of the approach at a time when electric vehicles are still seeking their place in high-level motorsport.

But before talking about supplanting F1 on the streets of Monaco, let’s remember a simple truth: this car needs to drive for real! For now, the DGR-Lola exists only in simulation, however sophisticated it may be. Lucas di Grassi assures that he wants to build a prototype within two years — a promise we will follow with both curiosity and caution.

Nonetheless, it is important to commend the initiative: exploring the limits of technology, imagining new architectures, and stimulating the debate on the future of racing. If the DGR-Lola realizes even half of its promises, it could already become a significant milestone in the evolution of electric motorsport.

In the meantime, all we want is to see it drive. And quickly.
