Hertz and Uber to Deploy 25,000 Electric Vehicles in Europe

With the goal of becoming 100% electric in Europe, Uber is partnering with Hertz, which will supply it with Tesla and Polestar cars, including in Paris.

Hertz had previously established an agreement with Uber, but only in North America. In November 2021, the two American companies launched their partnership in the United States, with Tesla vehicles made available, starting with California and Washington, D.C. Meanwhile, Hertz ordered 100,000 electric cars from Tesla, with 50,000 allocated to Uber.

What electric cars for Uber?

It is now known that a portion of the remaining vehicles will go to Europe. Hertz and Uber are expanding their partnership to the Old Continent. The companies will gradually provide 25,000 electric vehicles to rideshare drivers by 2025. However, these won’t be exclusively Teslas, as the announcement states that Polestar models will also be included.

However, the exact models involved in this collaboration are unknown. The Tesla Model Y and Tesla Model 3 are expected to be part of it, as well as the Polestar 2 sedan. The Polestar 3 SUV, which is very expensive with a price around €90,000, will probably remain inaccessible to drivers.

Paris rideshare with Teslas

Uber will begin delivering Tesla and Polestar vehicles in London starting January, aiming to convert its fleet to 100% electric by 2025. Other major cities, such as Paris and Amsterdam, will also join the partnership, according to Hertz and Uber.

“As the world’s largest mobility platform, we know that our impact goes beyond our technology. Climate change is the most urgent challenge we face, and now is the time to accelerate,” declares Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, “our goal is to become a 100% electric platform in Europe by 2030.”
