Rimac Overtakes Tesla!

Known for its fabulous electric Hypercar Nevera, the Croatian manufacturer Rimac comes to compete with Tesla by presenting its autonomous taxi.

Mate Rimac is definitely an amazing man. Known for his electric hypercar, the Nevera, and for his surprising acquisition of Bugatti through a partnership with Porsche, he has decided to launch a new brand that makes a grand leap from Hypercar to autonomous vehicle.

This new brand of level 4 autonomous electric vehicles, presented at Rimac’s headquarters in Croatia today, is called Verne and will hit the market in 2026. But while some limit themselves to an announcement with beautiful digital visuals and a buffet of hors d’oeuvres and champagne to smooth things over, Rimac presents the car directly!

The vehicle is built on an entirely new platform dedicated solely to autonomous driving and based on Mobileye Drive technology. It is completely thought out, designed, and manufactured from scratch, and therefore free from the compromises and drawbacks necessary when using a platform originally designed for human driving.

Is Rimac going too far?

It is a two-seater vehicle, rather understated yet quite beautiful, built around the passenger experience since the vehicle is without a driver. There is a complete sound system and a giant screen with a user interface designed for a wide variety of experiences for passengers. Priority is given to safety and comfort.

So of course, this is only a model, not even a prototype, and the tough tasks are beginning for the ambitious manufacturer. That is to say, mass-producing it at low cost, programming autonomous driving, establishing the charging network infrastructure, obtaining approval, etc. Two years will likely not be enough to wrap up this monumental program, should it ever come to fruition on the road, but Rimac has at least managed to present his car before Tesla since the Robotaxi will only be unveiled on August 8!
