The renewal of the TGV begins this year

Finally ready to enter service, the TGV M, the latest addition to high-speed trains, embodies the future of rail mobility.
Designed by SNCF Voyageurs and Alstom, this revolutionary train combines energy efficiency, modularity, and environmental respect. Scheduled to operate by late 2025, it represents a significant advance in the ecological transition of transportation.
With a 20% reduction in energy consumption and a 37% improvement in carbon footprint compared to current models, the TGV M stands out for its aerodynamics and eco-driving. Its 100% French design is based on a compact architecture, allowing for reduced manufacturing and maintenance costs while increasing capacity: up to 740 passengers, compared to 634 today. Moreover, 97% of the materials used are recyclable.
A modern and modular TGV
The sleek design of the TGV M, created by the agencies AREP and Nendo, emphasizes smooth and bright lines in timeless gray and white tones. Modularity is at the heart of the concept: the trains can be configured with 7, 8, or 9 cars, and the interior spaces can be reconfigured, for example, to switch from first class to second class.
The first TGV designed from the outset for complete accessibility, the TGV M offers total autonomy to travelers in wheelchairs. On board, connected services include high-speed Wi-Fi, real-time information, and preventive maintenance systems based on continuously transmitted data.
SNCF has ordered 115 trains for a budget of 3.5 billion euros. The first model was unveiled in 2022 in La Rochelle, marking a historic partnership with Alstom. Deployment will begin on the Paris-Lyon-Marseille line and will extend over a decade.
To accommodate this 5th generation of TGVs, maintenance centers, such as the Technicentre Sud Est Européen, benefit from an ambitious modernization program, with 300 million euros in investments, reflecting the environmental excellence of the TGV M.
