Tesla Plays with Electric Trains

Tesla finally abandons its old diesel trains and switches to electric to allow its German employees to reach Giga Berlin.

Good news for the planet, Tesla has finally electrified the specific shuttle train set up for its workers. We previously discussed the absurd situation where Tesla factory employees in Berlin were traveling to manufacture electric cars on a diesel-powered train. Not great when boasting about building a world without emissions. The employees of the gigantic factory located in the suburbs of Berlin can now enjoy shiny new battery-electric trains designed by Siemens to commute to work.

Tesla finally 100% electric!

The company that operated the railway for Tesla, Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn (NEB), has seen its contract end, ringing the bell for the ancient internal combustion locomotives. Siemens is immediately stepping in to operate a beautiful range of Zero Emission electric trains. In addition to a welcome modernization, this is a strong argument for the American manufacturer in its fight against German opposition to the expansion of its European factory.

The shuttle service is simple and now only takes 12 minutes from the center of Berlin. Stretching five kilometers, it makes about 60 trips a day from Monday to Friday. A highly anticipated update, the shuttle will soon take a break as Tesla’s expansion plan includes a freight station. An essential infrastructure to supply the logistics facilities near the factory itself.

A small nod from the calendar, this Giga Train went into operation the day before the scheduled presentation of the Robotaxi. We will have to wait until October to see the highly awaited autonomous taxi, but at least Elon Musk can boast of having unveiled a new 100% electric model on the scheduled date…
