Paris Metro Alstom 2025

Alstom puts the finishing touch on the production of the future MF19 metros which will gradually enter service in Paris in 2025.

The Île-de-France is undergoing a major transformation of its transport network. Thanks to substantial investments made by Île-de-France Mobilités, a brand new metro, the MF19, designed by Alstom, will appear as early as late 2025 on line 10 before being gradually deployed across eight lines of the metropolitan network. An ambitious project marking a new step in the modernization of Parisian métro.

A massive modernization of the Île-de-France network

Since 2016, Île-de-France Mobilités has been actively renewing rolling stock with a colossal budget of 12.5 billion euros for trains and 4.9 billion euros for metros. This investment has already led to the introduction of over 1,200 new or renovated trains, metros, and RERs.

While some lines have benefited from new pneumatic metros, such as the MP14 on lines 4, 11, and 14, rail-based trains also required extensive replacement. The MF19 will modernize equipment on lines 7bis, 3bis, 13, 12, 8, 3, and 7 by replacing older generations MF67, MF77, and MF88.

Fully funded by Île-de-France Mobilités, this new metro will be gradually deployed by 2033, with the goal that more than 50% of metro lines will have entirely renewed equipment.

A new generation metro, designed for travelers

Presented at the Bobigny workshop in the presence of Valérie Pécresse, President of the Île-de-France region, Jean Castex, CEO of RATP, and Frédéric Wiscart, President of Alstom France, the MF19 stands out for its design focused on comfort, safety, and sustainability.

Optimized Comfort

More space and better accessibility

  • Full intercar circulation “boa” facilitating passenger distribution.
  • Two configurable layouts:
    • “Comfort” with more seats.
    • “Capacity” with more standing space.
  • Widened doors and dedicated spaces for people with reduced mobility (PRM).
  • Real-time display screens indicating the next station, connections, and disruptions.
  • Enhanced sound and visual systems.
  • Integrated video surveillance for increased security.

A more ecological and modular metro

Eco-design is at the heart of the MF19 project, with a clear objective: reduce environmental impact throughout its lifecycle.

  • 20% of materials used are recycled.
  • 98% of components are recyclable at end of life.
  • Energy consumption reduced by 25% compared to MF77.
  • Fully electric braking system, limiting fine particle emissions at stations.

The MF19 has also been designed to adapt to the specificities of each line, with different configurations of train sets (4 or 5 cars) and manual or automatic driving modes, allowing a transition to full automation in the future.

A major investment to adapt the network

The introduction of the MF19 involves a 3 billion euro investment to modernize the necessary infrastructure for its operation:

  • Adaptation of infrastructure and maintenance workshops.
  • Modernization of signaling systems.
  • Training for drivers and technicians.

Among notable developments, Line 13 will benefit from automation by 2035 to improve traffic flow. New maintenance workshops, such as those in Créteil Valenton and Saint-Fargeau, will also be established to optimize train upkeep.

The MF19 has been awarded the Janus Industry Label, a distinction recognizing excellence in industrial design and ergonomics. This acknowledgment highlights the focus on comfort and practicality of this new-generation metro.

A first step in 2025

2025 will mark a key milestone with the arrival of the first trains on line 10, where they will be tested before scheduled entry into service this fall. This milestone will symbolize years of work and investments, carried out while maintaining the daily operation of the network.

With the MF19, Île-de-France is resolutely moving towards a more modern, comfortable, and environmentally friendly metro system, serving the millions of daily users of the Île-de-France network.
