Wesk Shaary autopartage Marseille 2022

While waiting for other cities, Wesk arrives in Marseille with a new car-sharing service of small electric vehicles Shaary.

When two former Navya employees, the company specializing in autonomous vehicles, team up to tackle urban shared mobility, it results in Wesk. This project is the work of the Greenpact startup founded by Christophe Sapet and Henri Coron, which started in late 2020. Its first activity has just launched on the Mediterranean coast, in France’s second-largest city.

50 Electric Vehicles Accessible in Marseille

Wesk launches the Shaary car-sharing service in Marseille. The fleet of 50 electric cars has been available since January 24, 2022, through a mobile app.

Shaary’s vehicles are small 100% electric cars with 2 seats. They are based on the light quadricycles (category L6e) Spanish Estima Birò. With a length of 1.83 meters, half of a Fiat 500, and a width of one meter, they are perfectly suited for the streets of the Phocean city and have a 300-liter trunk (worthy of a city car). Their advantage is the swappable battery, avoiding long charging times.

To use the service, simply register on the app, reserve the nearest vehicle, and unlock it on-site. At the end of the rental, you must park within the designated zone, but only in the city center (roughly the 1st, 2nd, and 6th districts).

What Price for the Shaary Service?

Access to the Shaary car-sharing service is free of subscription or commitment. You only pay by the minute, hour, or day. The rates are attractive, at €0.32/minute (€0.15 during pause), €15/hour, or €45/day. An additional €1.50 unlocking fee also applies. Only individuals over 21 years old with a valid driver’s license for at least 2 years are permitted.

Shaary includes insurance, and there’s no need to worry about parking fees or the recharging cost, which is handled by the technical teams. In practice, users have reported vehicle ranges between 20 and 45 km, most often around 30 km. A 24/7 customer service is also available in case of problems.

Wesk is expected to later expand into “other French cities very soon”, offering a similar car-sharing system.
