DHL certifies the Tesla Semi’s performance under tough conditions

Finally good news for Tesla, but not in the sector where the brand is experiencing the most disruptions. Whatever happens, what’s taken is taken!
DHL has partnered with Tesla in the United States to test the Tesla Semi in long-distance road transport configuration. The electrification of vehicles plays a central role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. While electric cars and small delivery trucks are now common in urban environments, electrifying long-distance heavy-duty trucks represents a much more ambitious challenge. Today, Tesla proves that this challenge can be met.
The Tesla Semi is not lacking in advantages with a competitive price and an impressive range of 800 km. Thanks to its three motors, it delivers three times the power of a conventional diesel truck and an impressive acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 20 seconds.
Nothing beats good training
For two weeks, DHL Supply Chain USA integrated the Tesla Semi into its operations on a 5,000 km route from Livermore, California. One of the most challenging trips covered 625 km with a 34-ton load, demonstrating the truck’s ability to travel long distances with a full load on a single charge.
And contrary to expectations, the results exceeded expectations: the Tesla Semi showed an average consumption of 1.07 kWh/km, surpassing even Tesla’s predictions, while maintaining an average speed of over 80 km/h on more than half of the route.
This test validated the Tesla Semi’s ability to travel 800 km in real conditions with a full load, while providing improved comfort and driving experience. Faced with these promising performances, DHL Supply Chain USA is now studying the best strategies to integrate these electric trucks into its network, as Tesla plans large-scale production of the Semi starting in 2026.
