Kia’s Small Practical Gesture for the Planet
This page is translated from the original post "Le petit geste pratique de Kia pour la planète" in French.

Why complicate life when you can keep it simple? Simply to do better and more, Kia’s mantra in this very beautiful initiative.
Since the launch in 2022 of a seven-year partnership, Kia and The Ocean Cleanup have been tirelessly working to find innovative solutions to transform plastic waste from the North Pacific Garbage Patch (GPGP) into sustainable and practical products. Founded in 2013 by Dutch inventor Boyan Slat, The Ocean Cleanup is an international non-profit organization that develops technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. By closely collaborating with partners like Kia to intercept the flow of waste from rivers and extract legacy plastics from oceans, The Ocean Cleanup’s only ambition is to step back once the oceans are clean. Unfortunately, that is not for tomorrow…
Kia recycles ocean plastic waste
Kia presented a trunk liner for the new EV3 compact electric SUV at the Paris Motor Show, made from ocean plastic waste provided by The Ocean Cleanup. This exclusive accessory will be launched in a limited edition in certain markets and can be ordered online when this model goes on sale. It is currently one of the most significant outcomes of the partnership between the brand and the organization.
The top surface of this accessory features a geometric wave pattern that echoes the waves and unfortunately the flow of waste within the collection area. It reflects the extraction operations carried out at sea by The Ocean Cleanup, proudly displaying its logo. As durable, protective, and functional as a traditional trunk liner, it is made up of 40% recycled ocean plastic. Each unit is equipped with a QR code, which provides detailed information about the product’s design and The Ocean Cleanup’s activities.
