Renault unveils its new full hybrid E-Tech 160 hp engine, a more powerful and more efficient group.

Renault continues exploring hybridization with its new full hybrid E-Tech 160 horsepower engine. This innovative engine, which will be fitted to the Captur and Symbioz models, combines increased power, reduced consumption, and controlled emissions, with only 98 g of CO2/km for Symbioz. Already a leader in France with 120,000 hybrid vehicles sold in 2024, Renault is strengthening its position in the European market, where 750,000 E-Tech models have found buyers since 2021.

This new powertrain combines a 1.8 L gasoline engine with 109 horsepower, two electric motors, and an intelligent dog clutch gearbox. Equipped with a 1.4 kWh battery, it allows up to 80% of city driving to be electric. As a result, trips become quieter, more economical, and environmentally friendly.

Performance has been optimized: 0-100 km/h is achieved in just 8.9 seconds for Captur, nearly two seconds faster than the previous version. Average fuel consumption has been reduced to 4.3 L/100 km, offering up to 40% fuel savings.

A more enjoyable and versatile block

Comfort is also enhanced thanks to an improved gearbox for faster and smoother shifts. With a towing capacity increased to 1,000 kg, this powertrain meets the needs of drivers seeking both flexibility and efficiency.

The full hybrid E-Tech 160 hp Captur is offered starting at €30,000 or €310/month, while the Symbioz benefits from a new mild hybrid 140 hp version starting at €29,900. This range of options aligns with Renault’s approach to support the energy transition with accessible and tailored solutions. Orders open on May 6, with deliveries scheduled for early July 2025.

Renault assures us that this engine is inspired by Formula 1. Let’s hope it enjoys more success than the V6 hybrid used by Alpine this season, which will be phased out at the end of the year!
