His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco made a striking arrival for the opening of the Monaco Hydrogen Forum.

For this occasion, the Prince chose to attend the Annual Forum of the Monegasque Hydrogen Alliance driving the Pioneer 25 Extreme H, an electric all-terrain racing prototype powered by hydrogen. A symbolic choice for a principled sportsman who has competed in five editions of the Winter Olympic Games in bobsleigh (1988, 1992, 1994, 1998, and 2002)!

Accompanied by British pilot Catie Munnings, Prince Albert took the wheel of the Pioneer 25, driving through the streets of Monaco, which annually hosts the most prestigious Formula 1 and Formula E races, to the Hermitage Hotel. Upon arrival, he officially launched this new edition of the forum, dedicated to global hydrogen issues and its central role in the transition to carbon neutrality.

The Prince emphasized his commitment to renewable energies, stating: “Hydrogen is a key pathway towards a sustainable future, providing solutions to reduce emissions across many sectors.” He then praised his vehicle of the day, adding: “I had the privilege of being one of the first to test this exceptional racing car here in Monaco, a country proud to host the most prestigious Formula 1 and Formula E competitions. With Extreme H, innovation in motorsport can become a driver of global progress, inspiring action beyond the racing circuits.”

Extreme H, launching in 2025, will be the world’s first all-hydrogen powered motorsport championship, aimed at inspiring innovation and promoting sustainable solutions. Building on the success of its sister series, Extreme E, the new competition seeks to demonstrate hydrogen’s capabilities and accelerate its integration into sports, mobility, and beyond.

The Pioneer 25 of Extreme H, equipped with a 75 kW hydrogen fuel cell, develops a maximum power of 400 kW (550 horsepower). Weighing 2,200 kg and measuring 2.4 meters in width, it can reach 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and climb slopes up to 130%.
