Plug&Go: The French DIY Bike by REF Bikes

REF Bikes allows you to adapt your bike to life’s ups and downs, such as expanding your family or changing environments.

The Plug&Go system is composed of:

• 3 connectors
• 3 tubes
• 1 base

Using a specialized key, the parts interlock to form the complete bike frame. This also allows for quick disassembly of the frame, enabling a One Essential (muscle-powered) to become a One Essential Boost (electric) or Urban, and in the future a Long Tail, a Gravel, etc…

Even for the most skilled DIY enthusiasts, this frame is not modifiable at home. Specialized tools and techniques are required. Frame changes are carried out at partner stores of Ref Bikes (Le comptoir du cycle, Velo Station, Bouticycle – L’Arbresle in Lyon, Au bon vélo, W – Ville & Vélo in Montpellier, and Test & Ride in Paris). Logically, it is not safe to play with cyclist safety by riding on a poorly assembled frame.

To ensure cyclist safety, frames are subjected to testing benches that measure resistance to loads and impacts, as well as the long-term durability of the system. Successful tests demonstrate that the revolution of modular bikes is underway.
