Toyota Opens a Mega Platform in the Czech Republic
Have you ever wondered what your Toyota’s journey has been since leaving the factory?
Toyota Motor Europe has inaugurated its first mega automotive logistics platform in Koliň, Czech Republic. Representing an investment of 17 million euros, it is the largest Toyota facility of this kind in Europe, with a processing capacity of up to 350,000 vehicles per year. Once operational, it will cover Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and Poland for the Toyota and Lexus sister brands.
The purpose of such a platform is to facilitate vehicle accessorization based on the model and base trim. Customization options are extensive thanks to the ability to store a number of vehicle configurations, allowing Toyota dealerships to respond more efficiently to their customers’ specific requests without going through a distributor. This unique storage capacity also helps reduce vehicle delivery times.
The Koliň mega platform also supports the manufacturer’s goals of decarbonizing the supply chain and vehicle logistics. It benefits from an extensive rail network currently connecting several European Toyota automotive manufacturing plants. For logistics, Toyota is gradually shifting from road transport to rail. Existing rail links have already prevented the emission of 4,237 tons of carbon annually since their creation in 2022. An additional link with Poland, near the production site of the recently launched Proace Max, is expected to further reduce emissions by approximately 1,099 tons per year.
