Italian police equip themselves with a Lamborghini Urus with 666 horsepower

In the long Italian tradition, the Polizia received a superb example of the SUV Urus from Lamborghini.

To the Germans, the Porsche 911; to the Americans, the big Dodges; to the French, the Alpine A110; and to Italians, the powerful Lamborghini. Traditions and cultural exceptions are beneficial when it comes to cars and police.

Thus, after several years of service, the Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 of the Polizia will retire and hand over to its big sister Urus Performante, boasting 666 horsepower. Power… demonic!

The key presentation ceremony took place in Rome, Italy’s capital, on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. The Lamborghini Urus Performante will enter service in 2024. The collaboration between Lamborghini and the Italian police began in 2004, and the Urus Performante is the sixth model to join the fleet of the highway patrol.

The Urus will be used by special units for emergency medical transport of organs and plasma. The Urus Performante was customized by Lamborghini technicians from Sant’Agata Bolognese, starting with the exterior, according to police specifications. The livery was designed by Lamborghini Centro Stile and combines the classic blue of the Italian state police and white, with tricolor strips on the lower sides and the seatbelt. Police logos were applied on the doors with reflective film, while a light bar with 360° blue LED lights was installed on the roof, along with a dual-colour electric siren.

The cockpit has been customized with various essential safety elements, including a armored weapons compartment; a foldable message display; and a special compartment in the trunk to store service equipment and a defibrillator for first aid. Most importantly, a portable refrigerator for organ transport has been installed, featuring a screen and data logger for continuous internal temperature monitoring.

The Urus Performante is equipped with a twin-turbo V8 engine delivering 666 hp and 850 Nm of torque at engine speeds from 2,300 to 4,500 rpm, ensuring acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 306 km/h.

This is mostly a friendly advertising and image campaign at low cost for both the Police and Lamborghini. And the approach is always appreciated by enthusiasts. Especially when such a fast vehicle isn’t used to issue speeding tickets. Ferrari owners would have cried foul.
