Cheaper than a Dacia Duster, the new MG ZS Hybrid

MG has dropped a real bombshell by unveiling its new SUV, the MG ZS Hybrid+, the star student.
MG is celebrating its centenary this year and looking to the future through the electrification of powertrains. While the fully electric MG4 has marked a true renaissance for the British brand, now under Chinese ownership, the last few months suggest a well-thought-out hybrid direction.

After the compact MG3 and the large EHS SUV, here comes a car that could well be a milestone for the manufacturer. Until now, we knew the MG ZS thermal, the MG ZS EV electric, and now we have the best of both worlds with the ZS Hybrid+. It is hard to see it as an heir since it is an entirely new car. The dimensions have increased, measuring 4.43m long (+11 cm), 1.82m wide (+1cm), and 1.64m high (-1cm). In the end, more dynamic proportions and increased occupant space thanks to a wheelbase of 2.61m.

It features the Hybrid+ powertrain, introduced by the MG3, consisting of a 1.5L 102 hp (75 kW) gasoline engine, paired with a small 3-speed automatic transmission, and a 136 hp (100 kW) electric motor. The result is a 0 to 100 km/h time of 8.7 seconds, but more importantly, it achieves impressive acceleration from 80-120 km/h in 7.2 seconds. While not a champion of fuel efficiency, this combination has a mixed WLTP consumption of 5.0 liters/100 km and emissions of 113 g of CO2 per km. This last figure is crucial as it exempts the SUV from any penalties in France.
The performance/price ratio of the MG ZS is impressive!
Right from the first “Standard” trim level, the offerings are generous with a 10.25-inch HD central display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 7-inch driver display, rear parking sensors with a rearview camera, automatic headlight and wiper activation, and keyless entry. All this for a price set to be under 24,000 euros! For comparison, the Dacia Duster hybrid range starts at 26,600 euros. The higher “Comfort” and “Luxury” versions come with a 12.3-inch display and the highly appreciated 360° camera for the latter, which will not exceed 28,000 euros. We will revisit the different trim levels during the first test drive.

The MG ZS Hybrid+ will be available for reservation starting Monday, September 2, on the site mgmotor.fr, with the first deliveries expected in October 2024. MG likes to move fast.
