The Bentley Flying Spur also goes hybrid

The large four-door sedan is now receiving Bentley’s new Hybrid powertrain, with an output of 771 hp.

The Bentley Continental GT has been presented to us as the perfect union of luxury and sportiness. Until now, the Flying Spur was known only for luxury, becoming a benchmark in this unique world since the launch of the current generation in 2019. But why deprive oneself of a beautiful modern engine when it’s offered? Especially when you can enjoy a well-controlled little drift as the British brand suggests. Bentley’s Grand Touring sedan will be launched at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, September 10.

The widespread adoption of this new electrified engine across its range is a major challenge for Bentley. The ability to drive in 100% electric mode for nearly 100 km, combined with a level of sound insulation and vibration filtration that is unique, is indeed a significant advantage. But more importantly, CO2 emissions below 40 g/km mean no ecological penalty, and that is the ultimate selling point that the manufacturer needs to convince its clientele to accept electrification.

The hybridization in service of sportiness

With a power of 771 hp and a staggering torque of 1000 Nm available thanks to the combination of a new 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine and a powerful yet compact electric motor, the hybrid powertrain makes the Flying Spur the most powerful, dynamic, and efficient four-door car in Bentley’s lineup since its inception 105 years ago. To better comprehend this giant leap, the new powertrain delivers 150 hp more than the W12 engine of the current Flying Spur Speed! And for a bit more dynamism, you’ll have an additional torque of 100 Nm at your feet. Is this too much for a luxury sedan? The average person might say yes, but Bentley operates in a world where nothing is ever enough, so why not more?
