Xpeng unveils its new weapon against Tesla

XPENG makes a splash by revealing the first official images of the next generation of its sporty electric sedan, the P7.
This new model, known by the internal code name Xpeng E29, is initially unveiled in photos. Saying too much might spoil the anticipation. Scheduled for launch in the second half of 2025, this four-door electric coupe marks a stylistic break with a design focused on performance, contrasting with the brand’s current SUVs.

The design of the Xpeng P7 was entrusted to Franco-Algerian designer Rafik Ferrag, who also led the first iteration of the P7 presented in 2018. The images suggest a fastback profile, a continuous LED taillight with a redesigned light signature, flush door handles, frameless mirrors, and a retractable rear spoiler. The front and rear elements evoke the P7+ launched in 2024, but this new version incorporates distinct aerodynamic improvements. “The first P7 was more than just a car, it became part of my soul,” Ferrag confides. “This time, I led a larger team to tackle even greater challenges. The future is no longer just a concept; we are shaping it.”
A True Evolution
The interior remains somewhat mysterious, but spy photos show a rich cabin blending fine leather with touch controls paired with a large screen. The P7 will likely feature the latest version of the Xmart OS 2.0 software, including voice commands and potentially augmented reality head-up display.
On the technology front, the model is equipped with an advanced driver assistance system combining integrated AI, the Xpeng Turing intelligent driving system, and an immersive cockpit. This approach sets it apart from the brand’s current systems. A hatchback-type trunk enhances its practicality.

The specifications of the powertrain remain vague, but the E29 will probably be based on the new “Kunpeng” platform and will surpass the P7i in performance, delivering 470 horsepower and a range of over 700 km.
XPENG’s global rise continues. The company has rapidly expanded across Asia, Australia, and Europe, now operating in more than 30 countries and regions, illustrating its ambition to become a global player in smart mobility.
