Xiaomi Understands That Money Can Buy Talent!

To ensure the sustainability of its electric automotive venture, started with the SU7 Ultra, Xiaomi is making massive investments in human capital.

Xiaomi, known for its smartphones and connected objects, surprised the automotive world by launching its electric sedan SU7 last year. This offensive has made the Chinese electronics giant a disruptive player in its local market, even managing to surpass Tesla Model 3 in sales since December. Buoyed by this success, the company’s CEO, Lei Jun, announced that Xiaomi aims to sell its vehicles outside China starting in 2027.

To realize this vision, Xiaomi is relying on top global talent. The company has recently recruited at least five senior executives from prestigious groups such as BMW. Among them, Rudolf Dittrich, a former BMW employee for 15 years, has taken charge of the upcoming European research center. Alongside him, Dusan Sarac, a former manager at BMW Group, and Jannis Hellwig, a performance engineer, have joined the ranks of the Chinese brand.

Xiaomi is here to stay

These recruitments demonstrate the importance Xiaomi places on its European research and development center project. Based in Munich, this hub is expected to bring together experts in automotive design and dynamic engineering. On its LinkedIn page, the automaker is still searching for senior automotive designers, specialized in exteriors, as well as vehicle dynamics engineers.

Although Xiaomi remains discreet about the exact location and financial details of this facility, the strategy is clear: attract elite talent to strengthen its technological expertise. The company appears ready to invest heavily to build a team capable of competing with the industry’s biggest names.

By focusing on human resources, Xiaomi is not just buying talent but investing in the future of its automotive brand. An ambitious approach that could turn this venture into a lasting success.
