Wiesmann Project Thunderball

Wiesmann estimates that the Thunderball will be “the most exciting sports electric car in the world”.

After disappearing from radar screens for a few years, the German manufacturer Wiesmann announces its big comeback with a new model: the Project Thunderball.

Formerly known for powerful BMW combustion engines, Wiesmann has chosen a 100% electric setup for the Project Thunderball. A small revolution, therefore, which does not break with the aesthetic continuity. With its long hood, generous curves, and a large more or less oval grille, the Project Thunderball stays true to the Wiesmann lineage. The retro design is also reflected inside, with a carbon dashboard dotted with circular dials. There is also a large digital screen in the center for the multimedia system, and a display facing the driver for the instrumentation.

Leather and carbon everywhere: welcome aboard!

Powerful and quite lightweight

To develop this roadster, Wiesmann relied on the expertise of the German consultancy Roding Automobile, which participated in designing the powertrain and the battery.

The Project Thunderball belongs to the family of propulsions. It has two motors mounted on the rear axle, delivering 680 hp and 1100 Nm of torque. Comfortable power, which, combined with a limited weight of about 1700 kg, guarantees top performance. The 0 to 100 km/h dash can be achieved in just 2.9 seconds.

Weismann assures that much work was done on the regenerative braking system. With its five levels of recovery, it should allow for a good compromise in every situation, including when the driver decides to accelerate.

500 km of range

The electricity is stored in an 83 kWh battery, which guarantees a theoretical range of over 500 km. Thanks to the 800-volt architecture, charging power can reach up to 300 kW on DC fast charging.

The Project Thunderball will be manufactured in Germany, in the city of Dülmen. Cautious, Wiesmann has refrained from giving a launch date. The price and the number of planned units are also unknown.
