For under 15,000 euros, this Leapmotor would fit right in France

Leapmotor continues its rapid rise with the B05, an electric compact car with a starting price that defies all logic.

Named Lafa 5 in China, this Leapmotor is offered in the local market at just over 14,000 euros at the current exchange rate. A price that instantly inspires dreams… before reminding us of an essential reality: Chinese prices will never be applied as they are in France, due to logistical costs, European standards, and import taxes.

This time, however, the game has changed. Thanks to its strategic alliance with Stellantis, Leapmotor can consider production or assembly in Europe, a decisive key to circumvent punitive tariffs on vehicles made in China. The result: a final price below 20,000 euros is not utopian, presenting an explosive prospect in a segment that is nearly devoid of direct competition.

Leapmotor claims a certain status

This aggressive positioning does not imply a subpar technical sheet. Measuring 4.43 m long and 1.88 m wide, the compact adopts a resolutely modern aesthetic: sloping roof, frameless doors, retractable handles, and a continuous light signature. With wheels that can reach 19 inches, it clearly plays the card of dynamism.

Under the hood, the rear motor develops 132 or 160 kW (up to 218 hp), allowing a 0 to 100 km/h in about 6.4 seconds. Two batteries are offered: 56.2 kWh (515 km CLTC, or a little over 400 km estimated WLTP) and 67.1 kWh. Fast charging promises to bring the battery from 30 to 80% in 18 minutes.

The interior is just as impressive: a 14.6-inch central screen, an 8.8-inch instrument cluster, cutting-edge Snapdragon technology, 12 speakers, ambient lighting with 256 colors, ventilated seats depending on versions… and even a LIDAR on the roof in the high-end models, paired with a fast computing platform.
