This Tesla Cybertruck is a wreck!

Some Tesla Cybertrucks deemed irreparable, or total loss, are starting to appear on auction sites.

Concerns about the repair costs of Tesla Cybertrucks have arisen since the model was introduced. For instance, a giant windshield costs $1,900 to replace. One of the first owners also received a quote of $2,800 to replace a simple quarter panel.

Furthermore, the stainless steel body panels worry insurers due to the complexity of their replacement and the value of the materials used. Hence, totally outrageous insurance quotes!

But the real problem comes from the very structure of the chassis that houses the batteries. A front impact results in significant damage to the frame and suspension, nothing very new here. A small dent, a chassis alignment, and it’s good to go. But if any of these elements come into contact with the battery, the repair quote skyrockets!

Insurers, unsure, prefer to declare the vehicle a total loss, refund the owner, and sell it at auction to the highest bidder to try to limit their losses.

With a better understanding of the vehicle, greater availability of spare parts, and better-trained labor, such examples will fortunately tend to disappear. Like everywhere, adaptation is key.
