The production version of the Denza Z, a product of the joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, was caught testing, and its lines unmistakably evoke the legendary Porsche 911. It’s primarily in profile that the Denza Z makes a statement, adopting certain aesthetic cues from the Porsche 911: muscular fenders, retractable door handles, frameless windows, and air intakes on the wheel arches. The door-mounted mirrors and the five-spoke wheels, less extravagant than those on the concept, affirm the sporty look without falling into ostentation.
At the rear, the dual-diamond lights remain, while the bumper has been redesigned to provide a more fluid silhouette. However, the fixed spoiler from the concept has disappeared, raising doubts about its availability in production, or even as an option. It is known that BYD is not particularly fond of these unsightly appendages, as seen on the YangWang U9.
In a market divided between GT models like the MG Cyberster and hypercars like the YangWang U9, the Denza Z aims for a middle ground. It will notably compete with models like the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra or the upcoming Mercedes-AMG, promising an electric experience that is both refined and muscular.
The official launch has not yet been announced, but one thing is for sure: the Chinese “electric 911” is already on the road.
