Tesla released a visual on September 12 with the phrase “Go for launch,” before Elon Musk confirmed that the event would indeed concern the Roadster. This is sure to excite performance enthusiasts, whose patience will have been tested far more than their necks.

On paper, the initial promise remains spectacular: 0 to 60 mph, or about 97 km/h, in 1.9 seconds, over 400 km/h at peak and nearly 1,000 kilometers of range. All of this with four seats and a removable glass roof. However, these specifications correspond to the project presented thus far: they do not constitute the final technical sheet of the car expected in October.

Curiosity now hinges on the extent of its transformation. According to information from The Information reported by Reuters, the event might include a demonstration of a version equipped with cold gas thrusters developed in collaboration with SpaceX. This is a sufficiently extravagant prospect to maintain suspense, but it remains to be confirmed both in its modalities and its commercial applications.

The question remains that reservation holders will likely ask before requesting the timer: when will they be able to drive away with the keys? Elon Musk previously mentioned a start of production twelve to eighteen months after the unveiling. Therefore, the October appointment does not mean immediate deliveries.

For Tesla, the challenge will be as much about dreaming as it is about making this timeline credible. A stunning acceleration would obviously have its effect. A adhered delivery date would, after nine years of waiting, be an equally remarkable feat.
