Skoda Offers Us Its Vision of the Sedan of Tomorrow
A modern style study reinterprets the famous Skoda 100 with the codes of contemporary design and a touch of welcome whimsy.
The Skoda 100, the first model from the manufacturer to surpass one million units produced, is reborn today in the form of a modern sedan imagined by the designers of Mladá Boleslav. This creation, presented as part of the “Icons Get a Makeover” series, explores what a contemporary Skoda 100 could be, while fully embracing its status as a creative exercise unrelated to a future production model. And one might think it’s almost a shame…

The original, produced between 1969 and 1977, left its mark on its era with its accessibility, popularity, and unique technical architecture. Rear engine, rear-wheel drive, and some clever solutions like fold-flat seats. These elements inspired designer Martin Paclt, who sought to revisit the spirit of the model without diving too deeply into retro styling. His ambition was to preserve the balanced character and proportions of the sedan while giving it a more upscale appearance, almost bourgeois but with some sporty cues, in the spirit of the contemporary lineup.
A very classic originality
The result is a sleek and streamlined silhouette, enhanced by generous volumes. The current Skoda design codes are reflected in four-module headlights, a sculpted hood, and light signatures that subtly recall the chrome and air intakes of the 1970s model. However, the boldest nod is at the rear. Paclt chose to eliminate the rear window to create a smooth, sculpted surface, inspired by the alignment of the front and rear windows of the original. A surprising air intake sits above this ensemble. This choice reinforces the connection to the period sedan.

Designed as an electric model, this reinterpretation still maintains the “all at the rear” architecture, allowing the front axle to be moved forward and creating a very short overhang. There is a generous frunk at the front, complemented at the rear by a more compact trunk, located above the transmission.
