An unprecedented amount in an industry where every job, factory, and battery hinges on public subsidies, carbon credits, and speeches about “sustainable mobility.”

This plan surpasses everything the automotive world — and even the tech sector — has seen so far. Of course, it is a “target,” conditioned on Tesla’s future success. But the symbol is already clear: a company built on the idea of collective progress that crowns an individual compensation of staggering scale.

The irony is bitter. Tesla built its image as a pioneer of the electric transition, a driver of change. Yet today, this transition is hijacked by governance logics bordering on indecency. While thousands of employees fight to keep their jobs amid a collapse in Tesla sales, energy prices soar, and production of affordable models declines, management rewards one man with a state-level budget.

One can admire Elon Musk’s boldness, his industrial genius, or his role as a catalyst. But one can also reject the normalization of such concentrated wealth. This choice no longer belongs only to investors. It also belongs to customers.

Because in a globalized economy, the most powerful vote remains that of the consumer. If this compensation shocks you, if you refuse to let “green” mobility serve as a facade for greed, then a simple gesture is called for: don’t order a Tesla. Turn to other brands, other solutions, other industrial projects that respect at least a minimum balance between innovation and responsibility. Between management and employees.

Elon Musk may have just crossed a symbolic line. Now it’s up to everyone to draw theirs. But the reactions sweeping the globe following the approval of this compensation plan could lead to an industrial disaster in the event of a worldwide Tesla boycott.
