Still attractive at purchase, the BMW electric vehicles could finally see a sales rebound with a more affordable iX1 eDrive20.

BMW has now launched the iX1 eDrive20, which reduces power compared to the eDrive30 version from 313 to 204 horsepower (150 kW). Conversely, this rationalization allows the range to jump from 396 km to 430 km, or up to 475 km in urban use only. Compared to its bigger brother, consumption is down with an estimated mixed cycle of 17.2 kWh/100 km, versus 18.1 in the 313 hp version. The battery retains its size: 64.7 kWh usable.
Accelerations will still be sufficient for daily use, with a 0-100 km/h sprint in 8.6 seconds, and a top speed limited to 170 km/h. In terms of charging… the eDrive20 will accept up to 130 kW in DC fast charging (from 10% to 80% in 29 minutes), and 11 kW in AC (at home or office). An optional upgrade will allow charging up to 22 kW.
Maintaining all other qualities that define a BMW — build quality, comfort, reliability — the iX1 eDrive20 will come standard with satellite navigation, bi-zone climate control, a rearview camera, and a large digital screen of nearly 21 inches diagonally.
Production of the BMW iX1 eDrive20 will start in November 2023 in Germany, no longer in China as in the past.
