Two years after its launch, the Lexus UX 300e shows a significant improvement in range. Thanks to a new battery of 72.8 kWh (up from 54.3 kWh), the electric SUV can now travel up to 450 km on a single charge (WLTP mixed cycle). This represents a 40% increase compared to previous models, which offered around 315 km of range.
If the battery has been upgraded, the electric motor remains the same. It delivers 150 kW (204 hp) and 300 Nm of torque. Performance figures have not yet been released, but they may decrease slightly, as the larger battery mechanically increases the vehicle’s weight significantly.
Lexus also provides no information on charging times, suggesting that the vehicle’s charging performance has not improved. Previous versions of the UX could recharge from 0 to 80% in 50 minutes using a fast charger. This is a fairly average performance given the battery size, limited by a maximum charging power of 50 kW.
A New Onboard Touchscreen
The other major update concerns the infotainment system, now featuring a touchscreen (the previous version did not have one). It measures between 8 and 12.3 inches depending on the trim. This change logically results in the removal of the touchpad that was previously present. Instead, Lexus has replaced it with controls for the heated seats. If the vehicle does not have this feature, the freed-up space will serve as small storage.
The interface of the infotainment system has been redesigned for better efficiency, and a voice assistant has been added. All trims now feature real-time navigation information.
The Lexus UX also gets new driver assistance features. A hazard intersection assistance, active lane correction, and a more advanced cruise control are now available. Additionally, Lexus has worked on the tuning of the electric power steering and dampers, along with improving chassis rigidity and soundproofing.
