Kia Reignites Its Ray Vehicle from the Ashes

The South Korean electric market is continuously growing. The Ray, Kia’s iconic city car, could make its return on Korean roads. 

In an article published on Ked Global, it is revealed that Kia plans to revive its iconic city car. It will be 100% electric, and also 1000% manufactured in South Korea, for the first time. 

What will be its features? 

The specialized site Electrek provided further details about the specifications of the upcoming Kia Ray. The next Ray is expected to have a range of 210 kilometers, doubling the previous range. Its electric motor would have a power of 63.3 kWh, again an increase compared to the old model. Its battery will have a capacity of 35.2 kWh. To compare the two vehicles, the 2011 version, marketed until 2018 (the discontinuation of the vehicle in the country was due to the limited number of charging stations in South Korea), was equipped with a 50 kWh motor and a 16.4 kWh battery, which is half the capacity of the upcoming version. This allowed it to have a range of 139 km, a difference of 70 km. 

Ked Global was able to speak with a brand representative, who stated, “The new Ray EV is ready to expand options for customers with a range of over 200 km, optimized driving performance for the metropolitan center, and a spacious interior.”

The new Kia Ray will be available starting next month, but only in South Korea.
