Tokyo 2024 Olympics: Toyota unveils shuttle for athletes and individuals with reduced mobility
As the 2024 Paris Olympic Games approach, Toyota reveals the technical features of its electric shuttles.
As the official partner of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Toyota will not only provide vehicles for officials and VIPs. Inside the Villages and sports facilities, athletes will be able to move around effortlessly thanks to a fleet of electric carts named APM.
These Toyota APM can carry 6 people, including the driver. Modularity is also a key feature of this cart, as the foldable seats free up space to accommodate people with reduced mobility in wheelchairs. A medical version will also allow emergency services to fit a stretcher and the necessary medical assistance.
A Citroën Ami engine?
The powertrain (motor, reducer, and inverter) is provided by the French specialist Valeo. The motor, with a power output of 13.5 kW (18.3 horsepower), allows a top speed of 20 km/h and a total load of 1390 kg.
As a side note, this technical assembly Valeo eAccess 48V allows, without electronic limits, a top speed of 100 km/h and a range of 100 km. It is already proven on the Citroën Ami, where the speed is legally limited to 45 km/h. The degree of usage is thus very limited, ensuring reliability. This motor is also found on the brand new electric scooter BMW CE02.
Toyota will provide 250 units of its APM for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
