Following the revision of its homologation tests for its Model Y and Model 3, Tesla may have subtly better ranges.

There is excitement in your eyes, so hopefully we haven’t sold you too many dreams. Indeed, Tesla had lost quite a bit of range at the start of 2024 due to a new calculation method introduced by the American authority responsible for this exercise. This notorious EPA range had shaved dozens of kilometers from the overall Tesla lineup, somewhat accelerating the deployment of the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive versions on the Model Y and Model 3.

Months have passed, and Tesla continued optimizing its products before re-presenting them for homologation. And the 2025 figures have finally been released with some relatively good news. Let’s just say there’s no cause for jumping for joy just yet.

+1% range…

First of all, these improvements only concern the Dual Motor versions, which have somewhat lost their purpose compared to the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive versions capable of traveling much farther. Therefore, an attempt was made to reduce this gap a little. Tesla announces an increase of 3 miles or 4.8 km for the Model Y All-Wheel Drive, with a range of 311 miles, or exactly 500 km. In Europe, the mixed WLTP cycle, more lenient and therefore somewhat optimistic, already states 533 km for this model.

The gain is only about 1% in terms of range, we warned you!

For the Model 3 Long Range All-Wheel Drive, the improvement is much more significant. Tesla focused on energy management with the 19-inch wheel option, increasing the range by 11 miles or 17.7 km. Here, the range goes from 305 to 316 miles, or from 490 to 508 km. Again, these figures are much more realistic than in France, where this model is listed with 629 km of range with 19-inch wheels (and 678 km with 18-inch covers).

In the case of the Model 3, the gain is still 3.6%. Every bit helps…
