Nearly Half of Drivers Considering Electric Vehicles

Faced with soaring fuel prices, more and more French people are interested in electric vehicles.
According to a study conducted by OpinionWay at the request of Electra, 43% of French car owners with an internal combustion engine say they are ready to replace their vehicle with an electric one. For the charging station operator, this growing enthusiasm is largely explained by the rise in gas prices.
Disparities between age groups and socio-professional categories
The study also confirms that age plays an important role. While 24% of those under 30 are willing to drive electric by 2025, the figure drops to 14% among those over 50.
Socio-professional status is also a key factor. The survey confirms, unsurprisingly, that electric cars interest more people from higher socio-professional categories (CSP+). 24% of them say they want to purchase an electric vehicle soon, compared to 15% of those from more modest classes.
Are electric cars too expensive?
The other point to address is the barriers to purchase. One clear observation: price is still perceived as too high. 69% of respondents said they are deterred by the costs. It is true that, even with the government bonus, an electric car is on average more expensive than a combustion engine. But there is no doubt that the technology will become more accessible in the coming years.
Next is the issue of range, considered too limited by 51% of respondents, and the lack of charging stations (40%). Finally, one-third of those surveyed believe that charging times are too long.
