Great news for Tesla, Donald Trump wants to sell his Model S

Trump wants to sell his Tesla to finalize his divorce from Elon Musk. A true breath of fresh air for the brand?

Less than three months ago, Donald Trump and Elon Musk posed together in front of some Teslas on the White House lawn. The purpose of this strange setup: to promote the brand to revive plummeting sales. Today, after a spectacular fallout between the two men, Trump is reportedly looking to sell this red Tesla that he had “loved so much” that day. And this turnaround could, against all odds, be very good news for Tesla.

During this clumsy unofficial advertisement, Trump praised the merits of the Model S, laboriously reading from his notes while talking about “everything is a computer”, as Musk smiled in the background. However, despite the media attention, the effect on sales was negligible. Tesla never saw a significant increase in orders. The brand, once a symbol of innovation, is now weighed down by the political image of its CEO. Elon Musk is omnipresent on the political and broader media scene. His stances have triggered waves of protest, driven away customers, and embarrassed many owners.

For Tesla, the key to recovery lies in one thing: depoliticization. Cutting the toxic link with Trump would be a salutary first step. Selling this car, emblematic of an awkward moment, could symbolically mark this turning point. Of course, Donald Trump has never driven the car; presidents cannot do so, and he previously had a Roadster that he never used. It is therefore high time to formalize the separation by liquidating the automotive jewels.

As the Musk–Trump relationship deteriorates, amid threats to cut funding to SpaceX and insinuations about Epstein, the separation is official. And for Tesla, freeing itself from this political burden could well be the start of a true restart.
