Delorean teaser

Known for its famous DMC-12, DeLorean is back in business with a new fully electric model.

The vehicle was designed as a distant successor to the DMC-12. It will feature butterfly doors and share other similarities with its ancestor. It will also be developed with the help of Italdesign, which had previously contributed to the development of the DMC-12.

A new teaser

After a first teaser revealing part of the rear, DeLorean shows a little more with a new video displaying the entire back. Verdict: the car will feature a large luminous bar at the rear, above a large illuminated logo. The sequence also gives a better view of the louvered vents on the rear window, reminiscent of the original DeLorean. The pronounced hips, however, diverge a bit from the original design, which favored less rounded, more angular shapes.

Meet on May 31

As for the technical specs, unfortunately, there is nothing available at this stage, at least not directly from the manufacturer. Joost de Vries, the brand’s director, revealed in a podcast that DeLorean does not particularly want to make another electric hypercar. In other words, the focus will be more on driving sensations than pure performance.

Before unveiling the final version, DeLorean will present a concept on May 31. The official name of the car will probably be announced at the same time. Afterwards, the new DeLorean will be publicly displayed in August at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Élégance.

Once the DMC-12 is relaunched, what will happen to DeLorean? Well, apparently, the brand will not stop there. Joost de Vries hints that other models will follow. “I won’t tell you whether it will be an SUV, a sedan, or something else, but there will be more products focused on volume,” he stated.
