Nissan Ariya NISMO

Nissan Motorsport has unveiled the Ariya NISMO on World Electric Vehicle Day. A sneak peek at the Alpine A390?

While the romance between Nissan and Renault may be over, the two manufacturers maintain strong technological ties. Thus, the Renault Scenic and the Nissan Ariya share the same CMF-EV platform, renamed AmpR Medium at the launch of the fully electric branch of the Renault Group aptly named Ampere.

So even if nothing is official yet, it is more than likely, even certain that the Alpine A390 will be based on the same technical foundation as its cousins. Alpine has accustomed us to carving its own technological paths with the remarkable glued aluminum chassis of the A110, but at some point, reason must prevail over passion. However, an Alpine must be sporty, something neither the Scenic nor the Ariya have been… up until today regarding the latter. The Ariya NISMO boasts a power output of 320 kW (435 hp) and all-wheel drive combined with sharp aerodynamics to deliver exceptional performance and road handling. It certainly resembles what we expect from the A390!

NISMO and Alpine share the same sporty philosophy

From the front shield forming a spoiler to the rear wing, the Ariya NISMO offers refined aerodynamics that, according to NISMO, improves the downforce/drag ratio by 40% compared to the base Ariya. A double rear diffuser and spoilers and deflectors inspired by Formula E generate a smooth airflow along the body. Even the 20-inch wheels have been designed to reduce weight and drag, while promoting air evacuation to limit the temperature rise of the tires and brakes.

This 100% electric model develops a power of 435 hp and a torque of 600 Nm. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5 seconds, and from 80 to 120 km/h in just 2.4 seconds. The e-4ORCE all-wheel drive system manages the power while enhancing cornering stability.

Alpine can very well choose to develop its own technologies at great expense, but one wonders why they wouldn’t take advantage of the work done by NISMO engineers. Not to mention the talent of the technicians in Dieppe, who should be able to push the power knob further up and optimize the running gear.
