Hispano Suiza

Hispano Suiza celebrates its 120th anniversary with the world premiere of its fully electric hypercar, the Sagrera.

Hispano Suiza is, above all, a noble old lady of 120 years that has successfully traversed two centuries and a millennium change. Its name comes from the nationalities of its founders, Swiss engineer Marc Birkigt and Spanish entrepreneurs Damià Mateu i Bisa and Francisco Seix Zaya. Today led by Miguel Suqué, the great-grandson of Damià Mateu, the brand positions its future in the cockpit of the Carmen Sagrera, the third model in its range of electric hypercars.

The new model was presented at the Finca Mas Solers to celebrate the company’s 120th anniversary. The Hispano Suiza Carmen Sagrera integrates the brand’s second generation of batteries, with a total capacity of 103 kWh. As highlighted by the brand’s technical director, Juan Fernández, this technology has been developed and manufactured 100% in Hispano Suiza’s facilities in Montmeló, near Barcelona. The entire unit weighs only 612 kg and can operate at a maximum voltage of over 750V. The T-shaped central position of the battery improves weight distribution and the car’s dynamic performance while the total range reaches 480 km according to the WLTP cycle.

120 years of history

The Sagrera boldly embraces its sporty character, with a pointed grille shape paying homage to the early 20th-century Hispano Suiza Alfonso XIII. The vents on the front hood not only enhance aesthetics but also functionality. The side skirts rise along the profile of the car, complementing the surprisingly distinctive rear panel design! A large two-part wing resembling stork wings pays tribute to the brand’s logo. Although it might not be truly elegant due to a significant imbalance between the front and rear, the style is unprecedented.

The Sagrera is equipped with four axial flow permanent magnet motors, each with 205 kW (approximately 275 hp), delivering a combined power of 1,100 hp and 1,160 Nm of torque, allowing it to go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.6 seconds. A unique feature of this car is that the motors are all positioned at the rear, with two motors per wheel! The transmission transfers all the power to the rear axle, which features an intelligent locking differential. This is essential to ensure effective torque transfer to the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires and prevent them from being destroyed with every start. Developed in collaboration with Michelin’s technical center, these tires boast a unique design inspired by storks and the mosaics of the legendary Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí, further enhancing the vehicle’s exclusivity.

After its world premiere, the Hispano Suiza Carmen Sagrera will head to the UK for its dynamic debut at the iconic Goodwood Festival of Speed in mid-July.
