BYD Atto 2, the perfect electric car?

Expected in Europe around 30,000 euros, this compact SUV will offer the best of electric technology at a reasonable price. Is BYD holding its secret weapon?

Marketed as Yuan Up in China, this new front-wheel-drive electric SUV is based on BYD’s new third-generation electric platform, the e-Platform 3.0. It is set to fill a gap in the Chinese manufacturer’s lineup between the small Dolphin and the Atto 3 crossover.

BYD has not yet provided official technical details about this new five-seater SUV. However, information published by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology reveals that it measures 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, positioning it directly against the Jeep Avenger or the Peugeot E-2008. It would also preempt the upcoming Volkswagen ID.2 before it is even presented. The Chinese threat is becoming clearer, but what more can be expected from the world’s leading electric car manufacturer?

Weighing less than 2 tons, the model is not threatened by restrictive measures like those that the Paris City Hall is preparing to implement. With modest power options of 94 hp or 174 hp, it will be extremely durable, offering 400 kilometers of range thanks to its in-house blade battery technology. More than enough once you understand how an electric vehicle operates.
