An authentic electric AC Cobra!

AC Cars, the oldest active automotive manufacturer in Great Britain, unveils its brand new creation, the AC Ace Classic electric

Who would have imagined the revival of the AC convertible beloved by Carroll Shelby in a 100% electric configuration? Derived from the AC Ace Classic and AC Ace Bristol Classic that have been in production since 1953, this electric version has been designed in the AC Cars workshops on the south coast of the UK, but most of its design is carried out by specialist TREMEC in the United States. The chassis, body, and interior of each vehicle will be handcrafted before receiving their electrified performance powertrain.

The modular EV platform eGT413 from TREMEC Electric GT gives the AC Ace a power of 300 horsepower (225 kW) and a range of nearly 300 km thanks to a 72 kWh battery. But the most significant figure is certainly its curb weight limited to 1,134 kg. To repeat, lightweight is the greatest virtue of a car. Less mass to move means less energy required for motion. It also reduces the strain on the vehicle’s components, especially the running gear. And incidentally, a lightweight car is so much more enjoyable to drive! This miracle has been made possible through a massive use of carbon fiber. One must know how to keep up with the times.

Reservations and orders for the electric AC Ace are open, but this beautiful electric toy does not come cheap with a starting price of 275,000 dollars excluding tax. It is unlikely that we will ever see one in France as low-volume homologations are not at all to the taste of our lawmakers.

Let’s hope this model inspires other manufacturers. A small, lightweight, sporty electric car has so much of a place on our roads!
