A new record for the Tesla Model S Plaid!

Launched almost two years ago, the Tesla Model S Plaid continues to set new sports benchmarks.

This new record is not official as it was established without validation from a record-keeping organization, and by a significantly lightened Tesla Model S Plaid. However, it highlights the incredible qualities of this car, which is equally at home on straight roads as it is on the track, as evidenced by its records set on the Nordschleife of Nurburgring.

The exercise we are discussing today is the Drag Race, or more simply, the Dragster. The goal is to cover a quarter mile, just over 402 meters, from a standing start as quickly as possible. In France, our acceleration benchmark remains the 0 to 100 km/h, but in the United States, it is really this Quarter Mile that assesses the true performance of a car. In the land of Uncle Sam, these races held on specific Drag Strips are at least as popular as Formula 1. The stars of these drag races are the Top Fuel, long overpowered machines equipped with gigantic tires at the back and tiny ones at the front, and the record is held by a woman, Brittany Force, who completed her run at a speed of 545.47 km/h after covering the quarter mile in just 3.6 seconds.

This particular Model S Plaid was able to establish an astonishing record of 8.59 seconds in this exercise, but as you can see, the owner massively lightened the car by stripping down the vehicle’s interior. It is no longer strictly speaking a production car, but rather a prototype derived from a production car. It also benefited from warmed-up tires and the incredible grip of the track. With a final speed of 264 km/h, this is still quite impressive, and all with no other noise than an electric whine!

Therefore, the record still belongs to the Rimac Nevera, but it is a vehicle worth over 2 million euros, while the Model S Plaid starts in France at 107,990 euros!
