A strange Renault Megane sold in Morocco!

The Renault Megane has had a great run since its shift to 100% electric, but in Morocco, it still runs on gasoline and has a strange shape.

On the Renault Morocco configurator, three Megane models coexist. First, there is the previous generation Megane, available only with the Blue dCi 115 EDC diesel engine. A solid and economical road vehicle that thrives in a country without an ecological penalty, priced at 313,000 Dirhams, which is still 29,000 euros! Next is the brand new Megane E-Tech, 100% electric, available only in the EV 220 version starting at 44,600 euros, or 478,000 MAD. Knowing that this model can be found for around 30,000 euros in France, one can guess it likely won’t be a bestseller. Electric vehicles are gradually establishing a foothold in Morocco, but it will take a bit more time, and especially a real charging infrastructure, for this type of vehicle to emerge from the very niche market in which it is currently confined.

A Simple Question of Taste

An outdated and somewhat expensive petrol version, an electric one that struggles to charge, and a third element, the Megane Sedan. This is the true queen of Renault sales. Launched in 2017 and restyled in 2021, it may not be the newest model, but it continues to thrive in a country where the compact 4-door format is very popular. This is a classic Megane benefiting from a trunk instead of the traditional hatchback. It’s simply a matter of customs and preferences, as the dimensions only change by a few centimeters, with a length of 4,632 mm. What is lost in loading volume, which is very little at just 550 liters, is gained in the privacy of the contents and elegance of the line.

The range starts at around 25,000 euros, much cheaper than the “European” hatchback version. From the outset, it includes the essentials like air conditioning, a hands-free trunk opening, and a fully digital dashboard. Still, there is only one diesel engine with a 7-speed automatic transmission. Simple, robust, elegant, efficient. Why ask for more?
