Electric Plane: This Nine-Seater Aims for 400 km and Secures 30 Million Euros
New passenger transporter over 400 kilometers without kerosene: this is the ambition of the Vaeridion Microliner. A concrete step for regional electric aviation.
The electric plane is also moving away from the promises of flying taxis. On November 5, 2026, Vaeridion announced a new fundraising campaign aimed at financing its Microliner, a device designed for small regional connections. The goal: to rekindle economic interest in flights linking poorly served areas.
Alongside this 30 million euros, there is a prospect of European support. The Commission has selected its CAROLUS project for a grant of 94.5 million euros, dedicated to industrialization near Munich. However, caution: the corresponding agreement is yet to be finalized, with a signature expected in 2027. This funding is therefore not yet guaranteed.
Electricity in the wings
The Microliner relies on batteries integrated into the wings and several electric motors driving a single propeller. Its technical specifications announce nine passengers, plus two pilots, with a targeted range of 400 kilometers, along with additional reserves for instrument flight.
Another interesting data point: Vaeridion anticipates a typical recharge time of less than 40 minutes, with a maximum power of 800 kW. As with an electric car, the availability of infrastructure will be crucial for maintaining rotations. These performance targets remain to be validated.
A first prototype before the passengers
The manufacturer claims commercial commitments for 130 devices, without presenting all of them as firm orders. Its production and testing facility opened in March 2026 in Oberpfaffenhofen.
The next step is to test the batteries and propulsion systems together on the ground, and then prepare for flight tests. Vaeridion is targeting 2030, but certification is yet to be obtained. Funding thus brings the Microliner closer to takeoff, without yet guaranteeing its arrival on regional routes.
