Leapmotor B10: Up to €7,000 in French subsidies for this Chinese SUV produced in Europe

Up to €7,000 in incentives to buy a Chinese SUV: the Leapmotor B10 exemplifies the strategic shift of manufacturers from China.

The symbolism is strong. Now manufactured in Zaragoza, Spain, the Leapmotor B10 obtains the French eco-score. Its buyers can thus benefit, depending on their income and eligibility, from a grant ranging from €3,650 to €7,000 under the CEE program. Priced at €25,750 with the minimum aid already deducted, the electric SUV could cost €22,400 with the maximum announced support.

However, behind this attractive price lies an industrial battle. Chinese brands are no longer just looking to export their cars: they are establishing their production at the heart of the European market. In partnership with Stellantis, Leapmotor combines its technology with an already established industrial and commercial tool.

The Double Advantage in Question

This is where the model raises questions. The European Commission has determined that the Chinese electric vehicle sector benefits from unfair subsidies, justifying countervailing duties on vehicles imported from China. Producing in Spain does not eliminate the advantages accumulated within this ecosystem: industrial capabilities, technologies, and a competitive supply chain.

Nevertheless, no amount of Chinese subsidy directly attributable to the Spanish B10 has been established in the available information. The cumulative concern therefore potentially involves upstream supports and French purchase aids, rather than two identifiable grants on each car.

Europe gains industrial activity, while motorists have access to a cheaper electric vehicle. However, its manufacturers now face Chinese competitors able to operate according to local rules.

The B10 thus poses a central question: is supporting a car made in Europe sufficient to strengthen the European industry, when its technology and part of its economic strength come from China?
