A13: Nine Months of Closure, the Announced Hardship at the Gates of Paris

From November 16, 2026, the A13 will be closed in the Paris-Normandy direction at Saint-Cloud: nine months of work that promise to seriously complicate travel in the western Paris area.

This is one of the most strategic roadways in the west of Île-de-France that will be cut off for nine months. Starting from November 16, 2026, until the end of August 2027, the A13 motorway will be closed in the Paris-province direction between the périphérique (ring road) and the Vaucresson interchange.

The reason: the northern tube of the Saint-Cloud tunnel, an 830-meter structure, some parts of which were built in the 1930s with unreinforced concrete. Its consolidation was scheduled for the medium term, but the timeline has been expedited by the arrival of the tunnel boring machine for the future line 15 West of the Grand Paris Express, which must pass beneath this area considered geologically sensitive.

The project includes the creation of a new reinforced concrete shell. The stakes are considerable since around 80,000 vehicles use this route daily, which is essential for travel between Paris, Hauts-de-Seine, Yvelines, and Normandy.

Alternative routes that risk becoming congested

Two major detour routes are being studied, but the authorities primarily want to avoid a massive rerouting of traffic onto the streets of Boulogne-Billancourt, Saint-Cloud, Meudon, and neighboring municipalities. Drivers will be encouraged to favor public transport when possible.

Several elected officials are already calling for exceptional measures, including the temporary free use of the A14, to absorb part of the traffic.

And the situation will become even more complicated during the summer: from July 1 to the end of August 2027, the A13 is also scheduled to close in the province-Paris direction, mainly due to work on the viaduct.
