Opel Corsa GSE: Long Live Electric Sports Compacts!

With 281 hp and a 0 to 100 km/h time of 5.5 seconds, the new Opel Corsa GSE showcases the rise of high-performance electric city cars.

Opel revives the GSE name with a radically electrified version of its flagship city car. The new Opel Corsa GSE marks the return of small sports cars in the German manufacturer’s lineup, while illustrating a fundamental trend: the emergence of a genuine segment of electric sporty compacts.

Developed on a 100% electric platform, the Corsa GSE boasts unprecedented performance for a production Opel. Its motor delivers 207 kW, or 281 hp, with a torque of 345 Nm. This allows for a 0 to 100 km/h time of just 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h. Three driving modes are offered — Sport, Normal, and Eco — to adapt the car’s performance according to its use.

A true little sports car!

To accompany this power, Opel announces a Torsen limited-slip differential, a lowered sports chassis, specific suspensions, and high-performance Alcon braking with four pistons. The 54 kWh lithium-ion battery features specific thermal management designed to maintain consistent performance during sustained driving.

Visually, the new Opel Corsa GSE adopts a more aggressive styling with specific bumpers, widened wheel arches, a black roof, and a rear spoiler. A beautiful ensemble enhanced by 18-inch wheels fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. The interior features sport seats in Alcantara, yellow inserts, and a digital dashboard integrating performance-specific data.

This Opel Corsa GSE primarily confirms the strong comeback of electric sporty compacts. Following the Alpine A290 and its French cousin the Peugeot E-208 GTI, Opel strengthens a segment that seemed to have disappeared with electrification. Now, electric city cars are not only focusing on efficiency but also on driving pleasure and sensations. And all this is truly exciting.
