Hyundai Ioniq 5 2022: New Battery and Camera Mirrors
This page is translated from the original post "Hyundai Ioniq 5 2022 : nouvelle batterie et rétroviseurs caméras" in French.

Released just a year ago, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover is being updated with a larger battery and camera mirrors.
Absolutely unique within Hyundai’s range, the Ioniq 5 is an all-electric crossover launched in early 2021, a cousin of the Kia EV6. Despite its young age, it is already receiving a facelift with some modifications to its battery and equipment.
Why this new larger battery?
The Korean model is currently available in two main versions. They are equipped with two different battery capacities: 58 kWh and 72.6 kWh. Each is also offered in two variants: rear-wheel drive (2WD) or all-wheel drive (4WD). However, the 2WD small-battery Ioniq 5 is not available in France.
Although the larger battery already provides up to 481 km of range in 2WD (460 km in 4WD), the manufacturer has decided to modify its capacity. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 will receive a new 77.4 kWh battery, with no additional range details. There is also no figure yet for fast charging power. Currently, it is 232 kW, allowing from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes.

We only know that the ‘automatic climate adjustment during trips to ensure optimal charging conditions upon arrival at a station’. However, the charging point must be within the onboard GPS system with navigation activated.
In addition to this new battery, the brand reports having modified the front and rear adaptive suspensions, ‘to improve comfort’.
Interior and Exterior Camera Mirrors
In terms of equipment, the Asian electric crossover will include camera mirrors. One will replace the interior mirror, with the display transmitted by a camera located in the small rear roof spoiler. The other two will replace the conventional mirror side mirrors. According to the manufacturer, they ‘reduce air resistance’ and provide ‘clear visibility, even in bad weather’. Think immediately of rain, but also frost.
This is a first for Hyundai, because the hydrogen car Nexo only offered cameras for blind spots (keeping its traditional mirrors). The Hyundai Ioniq 5 joins the exclusive club of vehicles equipped with camera mirrors. The large hybrid Lexus ES was a pioneer as early as 2018, followed by the electric SUV Audi e-tron.

The small electric city car Honda e launched in 2020 has gone further. It features this equipment as standard, with a total of 5 screens on its unconventional dashboard.
What is the price for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 77.4 kWh, and when?
The new 77.4 kWh battery will replace the current 72.6 kWh ‘in the second half of 2022’, Hyundai indicates, meaning at best this summer. It should remain compatible with the 218 horsepower 2WD versions and the 306 horsepower ‘HTRAC’ all-wheel drive variants.
Prices for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 start at 43,600 euros for the 58 kWh small battery, and 46,800 euros for the 72.6 kWh (also called 73 kWh). With leasing (LOA), the monthly rate begins at €249 over 37 months, with an initial large payment of €10,350 excluding bonuses.
There is no indication whether the company will increase the price with the new battery or which trim levels will have access to camera mirrors.
