But today, the manufacturer announces that it lacks funding and must launch what looks like a last-ditch effort.
“We haven’t managed to raise enough money. We failed to explain to investors why the Sion is truly necessary and that there is real demand for this car,” explains the manufacturer. So, they are now forced to launch a crowdfunding campaign in an attempt to save their project. Through this, they hope to secure 3,500 firm orders for the Sion. Only by reaching this goal does Sono believe it can continue its journey.
A €3,000 Discount on the Sion
Customers willing to order immediately can benefit from a €3,000 rebate. The price of the Sion will therefore drop from €29,900 to €26,900. It is also possible to reserve a unit with a smaller deposit, but the discount is then less significant. This offer ends on December 13, 2022. If the campaign does not succeed, Sono will of course refund the money to its former prospective customers.
Sono hopes to begin pre-series production of the Sion within the next year. Mass production is scheduled to start in 2024.
For the record, the Sono features a 54 kWh battery, providing a theoretical range of 305 km. Its photovoltaic panels could allow about 110 km of travel per week using solar energy.
