Cityscoot Loses Nice City

Present in Nice since 2018, the operator Cityscoot will soon be packing its bags. It will be replaced by its competitor Yego.
The city of Nice has decided to part ways with Cityscoot, the scooter-sharing operator that has been operating in its territory since 2018. It now entrusts its confidence to Yego, which offers a similar service. Already present in several cities, the newcomer will launch its activities in Nice before the start of summer. It will be able to deploy up to 700 electric scooters in shared service.
This change of operator is partly motivated by economic reasons, as Yego has agreed to pay a higher fee. Interviewed by Le Figaro, Cityscoot denounces an “auction-based fee system”, which would, according to them, threaten the industry. “If this approach becomes widespread, there will be no actors of this kind in the coming years,” explained the operator.
Yego commits to fighting illegal parking
For its part, Nice states that technical issues also played a significant role. The city has obtained strong commitments from Yego regarding the fight against illegal parking. “The service will operate via an application allowing geolocation and vehicle reservation. Users will now have to take a photo at the time of return, confirming that they have parked the electric two-wheeler in an authorized public parking space,” it stated in a press release.
Cityscoot will have to remove its approximately 500 scooters from Nice before March 31. The vehicles will be redeployed in other cities where the company operates. In France, Cityscoot is present in Paris, but its future in the capital is uncertain. The municipality is preparing to reduce the number of authorized operators in the city. Of the four currently sharing the market (Yego, Cityscoot, Cooltra, and Troopy), three will be retained.
