Train: 60,000 Interrail passes offered to travel in France and Germany

The two neighboring countries, France and Germany, are offering 60,000 free tickets to young people aged 18 to 27. The goal of this project is to allow young people to travel to the other country. An idea in partnership between the German Government and the French State.

The 60,000 tickets distributed will allow young people to use all the railways of the neighboring country for one month starting from the first trip, from July 1 to December 31, 2023.

This initiative started last January, during a Council of Ministers between France and Germany. It celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Elysee Treaty, which sealed the reconciliation between the two countries.

Moreover, the platform passefranceallemagne.fr opened today at 10 a.m. The office of the Minister of Transport, Clément Beaune, announced that the “first come, first served”.

60,000 tickets shared between the two countries, with a large part reserved for scholarship students and apprentices

Tickets are split evenly between the two countries, 30,000 are reserved for Germans and 30,000 for French. On the French side, half of the passes will be allocated to “scholarship students, young apprentices, or young people in integration(…) the idea being that youth farther from Germany can access this free and unlimited pass,” stated the office of the Minister of Transport.

Additionally, regarding apprentices, the office of the Minister Delegate in charge of Education and Vocational Training, Carole Grandjean, explained that “the goal is to organize the distribution of these tickets to deserving apprentices or those who have won excellence competitions within their organizations.” For example, the winner of a best apprentice contest.
