A Cold-Resistant Battery With a 1000 km Range: Myth or Reality?

In winter, the chill prevents the battery from charging quickly, so how can a battery be durable? The Chinese company Greater Bay Technology has announced that it has designed the ideal battery, with a range sufficient to cover very long distances, without exaggeration.

Electric cars dominate the world, at least in terms of sales. In the first quarter of 2023, the Tesla Model Y was the best-selling car worldwide. The issue is not insignificant; many people are still hesitant to buy an electric vehicle, mainly due to concerns about the car’s range.

Solutions to the problems

The Chinese company announced that it can meet these expectations. The launch of the battery called “Phoenix” is scheduled for 2024. It has many qualities. First, its range — the Chinese startup foresees 1,000 kilometers of autonomy. To compare, Tesla models such as the Model S or Model 3 can have a range of up to 600 kilometers.

The announced driving range is equivalent to the distance between Saint-Malo in the Northwest and Sète in the South. This distance could be traveled without stopping at a single charging station. This would make long trips easier for electric vehicle users.

That’s not all

The battery designer also announced that the charging time would be 6 minutes to go from 0 to 80% capacity. This time is comparable to the duration of a coffee break with colleagues at the cafeteria.

Earlier, we discussed heat and coolness; for this battery, that no longer holds great importance. The technology integrated into the battery can warm the element from -20°C to 25°C in six minutes. A real advantage for winter outings.
