A survey conducted by Opinionway showed that 68% of French people will travel by car this summer, compared to 78% last year.

School holidays will start on July 8, 2023, exactly. Opinionway, in collaboration with Point S, released a study on travelers’ modes of transportation this summer.

Planes and trains will be used more than last year

This year, both planes and trains will be more used than last year. Concerning air travel, there is a 6% increase in holidaymakers, rising from 11% in 2022 to 17% in 2023. Not only that, train travel will also see an increase in passengers. 12% of holidaymakers will choose the train as their mode of transport, compared to 11% last year.

Only 2% of cars will be electric

In this same survey, which was conducted among 1008 people, only 2% plan to use an electric car. Why? The main reason is the battery‘s range, which on average allows for about 400 km without needing to recharge. To travel from Lille to Montpellier, a distance of 963 km, travelers will need to stop an average of two times. This can depend on your car’s capacity; not all models have the same range.

A thermal car will be used 87% of the time, compared to only 10% for a hybrid car.

Note that carpooling will be adopted only 2% of the time. Yet, we know its impact on both the budget and the environment.
