Tickets to Spain are now on sale

Trainline, the train or bus ticket sales platform, is now offering the Spanish Renfe on French rails. 

Since the opening up to competition, two new railway operators have arrived on French soil. The first was Trenitalia, which arrived in France in December 2021. Now it’s the turn of the Spanish operator Renfe to make its debut. 

Attractive destinations

With this new operator, the south of France, including the cities of Lyon and Marseille, will be able to connect directly to Barcelona in Spain. 

And attractive prices

Starting today, Wednesday, June 21, 2023, tickets for traveling through the south of France to Spain are available. The first trains are scheduled to depart on July 13, just one week after the start of the school holidays. A trip from Barcelona to Lyon or Barcelona to Marseille will cost a total of 29 euros. A reasonable price. For example, traveling from Barcelona to Narbonne will cost 19 euros.

For comparison, on July 13, the first day Renfe trains are available, the minimum ticket price from Barcelona to Lyon on SNCF Connect is €162.20. That’s a difference of €133.20, with a travel time over 1 hour and 20 minutes longer on SNCF.

With Trenitalia’s arrival, ticket prices for routes like Paris – Lyon or Paris – Milan are down by 8% and 17%, respectively.

Like with the Italian operator, consumers will be the main winners of this competition.
